We did it. We closed on the house (not without some last minute crap from the seller, but I put my foot down, even as the husband was kicking me under the table at the closing). And we moved. We are in. Even if we aren’t totally out of the condo.
The husband says the move went really well and smoothly. But I think his judgement is clouded by the fact he pulled an all nighter the night before we closed, and spent the whole night after the moved working from our new dining room, only to stop when Three woke up and started demanding waffles. Moving when work got insane for the husband was not the best thing we have ever done. But overall, the move IN did go pretty well. My mom made it her mission to unpack & organize the kitchen as the boys were moving the heavy stuff. And she did. And really that was a total godsend, as to this day, that room is the most functional room we have. Three’s room and our bedroom are liveable. But the rest of the house? And the move OUT of the condo? UGH.
We have no living room furniture. Because the old stuff needs to get hacked apart to come out of the condo thanks to the new sliding glass door. Its not the end of the world as I always hated that couch anyway, but it was supposed to move into the playroom when we eventually ordered its replacement. Instead, we ended up ordering furniture a little sooner than we wanted, but we are still waiting for it to arrive. Next Saturday is the big day, and oh HOLY HELL I cannot wait to have something soft to sit on beside my bed. I still need a plan B for the playroom, as even Three is deciding that while its nice his toys are in there, the room doesn’t exactly say ‘come play in me’ in any sort of welcoming way. My iMac (aka, Lightroom, Photoshop, and my beloved Wacom tablet) is still sitting in its box in what will be the office. I have a ton of boxes that still need to be unpacked, but first they need closets with storage systems in them to be unpacked in to. We keep finding other little oddities of 1967 living in the house (like how there is only 1 phone jack in the entire house, and there is no power anywhere near it, so our cordless phone, is sorta useless. Yay for cell phones!) that need to get addressed. The list of to do’s is not getting any shorter.
So we all seem to spend a lot of time sitting in the kitchen as it is a refuge from the chaos. Which means all told we are pretty much living in the same square footage that we were living in in the condo. So, why did we move again?
Mostly, we need to work on making this place an actual home, rather than just a house. And that is slow going at the moment. But, I did get all the wallpaper in the dining room down, and that room already feels so much better, even with the bad paint job that removing the wall paper revealed. So I know there is light at the end of the very long tunnel. I am hoping that the second half of November will prove to be very productive once the husband gets a little bit of a breather from work and we can tag team with the child some. Three has reached the end of his patience with house projects and just wants some attention. I can’t really blame him for that at all. I just want us all to feel more settled that I think we do at the moment. But I know that will come.
The day after we moved, I took Three out food shopping to stock up the house while the husband took a much needed nap. When we got back, we woke up the husband, and went outside to have a snack on our deck. And play some baseball in our backyard. And suddenly, things started looking up, just a little.
Congratulations on closing! And on moving. And on getting that wallpaper down. I think you’ll truly start to appreciate it around the holidays, when you have extra reason to make the place pretty.
